1 week comprehensive introductionThis one week introduction to sculling is designed for individuals that have limited or no prior experience with rowing or sculling. Initial instruction will use Concept2 Indoor Rowers, where participants will develop a basic understanding of body positioning, sequencing, and power application. Training will progress to the water utilizing the Peinert Zephyr, a one person sculling shell that is reactive but very stable. Work on the water will continue to reinforce the basics while also introducing concepts of balance and bladework. It is possible, though not expected, that athletes will transition to a racing single before the end of the week. If this is the case the goal will be to ensure comfort in the equipment and transfer of basic skills. We will not introduce advanced concepts within this programme. The session will be coached by Travis Gardner, veteran sculler and coach with National titles in the double and quadruple sculls as an athlete, and single, double, and pair as a coach. The majority of Travis' scullers that medalled at the National Championship took their first strokes with him as well. Participants can be assured they will receive premier instruction that will develop a strong technical foundation for success in later seasons.

Select OptionYouth Summer High Performance Training Group
premier training environmentThe High Performance Training Group is a program like no other. Athletes are carefully selected based on their potential to (not necessarily history) reach the higheset levels of competition. They are then immersed in a training environment designed to get them there. Training focuses on small boat proficiency which is then leveraged for team boat performance at the summer's three premier North American regattas: the Independence Day Regatta, the USRowing Club National Championship, and the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. Training involves 9-12 sessions each week which include on-water training, indoor rowing, strength, mobility, flexibility, tactical training, and in-depth technical review.
Athletes that do not have sculling or single sculling experience are encouraged to join the group as soon as their spring season is complete. All other athletes can do the same, or join following the Youth National Championship (local athletes) or once their spring school committments are concluded (non-local). Residency options are available for non-local athletes. The High Performance program is particularly successful at indentifying potential in athletes early in their careers that other coaches do not, and has a track record to prove it. We encourage any u17 or u15 athlete to apply with this in mind. u19 athletes without a notable pedigree are encouraged to apply as well, though can expect to subject to additional scrutiny to ensure they will be able to excel within the shorter window available to them prior to graduation.
